shubkono

The Holy service of Reconciliation (shubhkono) was conducted on March 6, 2011.  Rev. Fr. Mathukutty Varghese was the chief celebrant.  He was assisted by the Vicar Rev. Fr. P.M Cheriyan.

Subuhkono is observed on the first Monday of the Great Lent and it signals the start of the Great Lent.  Shubhkono service starts midst the Lenten evening prayer on this day.  Shubhkono service is all about love and forgiveness.   The Gospel reading for this service also reminds us that not only must we be willing to ask for mercy and forgiveness from God but we must be willing to practice mercy and forgiveness towards others.

During the last part of this service the Priest asks forgiveness from the congregation and kneels down three times with prayers:

First: “My brethren and beloved ones, forgive me whatever I have sinned against you, for the sake of Christ. In spiritual concord, in paternal love and as a watchful pastor, with my face to the floor, I exhort you to forgive one another”.

Congregation responds: “Father, Barekmore, we ask forgiveness”.

Second: “I pray and beseech your true love, O brethren and beloved ones, let us reconciled to one another that God may be reconciled to us. For the glory of the Holy Trinity, I lay my face on the floor before you”.

Congregation responds: “Father, Barekmore, we ask forgiveness”.

Third; “In your presence, with a contrite heart and a perfect conscience, I cry out with a loud voice, beseeching your love, saying: Come my beloved brethren, let us be reconciled to one another and pardon the transgressions and faults that we all have committed against one another that God may be reconciled to us and forgive us our debts and sins as He said: if you forgive the debts and faults of one another, you will also be forgiven. May the Lord God be the Forgiver and Absolver of our sins and yours”.

Congregation responds: “Father, Barekmore, we ask forgiveness”.

This service ended with final benediction.
